by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
Superstorm Sandy is whipping through New England, leaving behind $20 billion in damage, while President Obama declares New York City a “major disaster area.”
The storm”s ferocity has moved north, but it will be a slow recovery for the Washington-New York area. The capital has been described as a “ghost town,” and New York was virtually shut down.
The death toll has reached 16, and the subway systems in Philadelphia and New York City remain closed.
Economic damage is estimated to be approximately $20 billion, and the number is likely to grow as the East Coast begins to discover disastrous after effects while they dry out. The salt water that gushed into New York City streets may have done untold damage to subway mechanisms.
The storm set off an “alert” at the New Jersey Oyster Creek nuclear power plant, where a rise in flood waters could force the use of emergency water supplies to cool down spent uranium fuel rods.
Sandy was lashing southeastern Canada as of noon Israeli time Tuesday, and more than 100,000 in Ontario are without electricity. A falling sign in Toronto killed one woman Monday night.
Several areas in the Mid-Atlantic states still are being evacuated due to rising flood waters.
Sandy was rare in several aspects, not the least of which is its size, reaching as far inland from the East Coast as the Midwest.
High winds knocked out power for more than 23,000 homes and businesses in Michigan and more than 200,000 in Ohio. Residents in at least one small lake-side village in Wisconsin were warned to evacuate.
Snow was expected in higher regions in Tennessee, West Virginia and Western Maryland.

2. FATAH FACEBOOK PAGE SHOWS MOTHER PLACING SUICIDE BELT ON SON by Rachel Hirshfeld
A recent photo posted to the official Facebook page of Fatah”s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon shows a mother placing a suicide belt on her young son, reported Palestinian Media Watch, which has documented the ongoing glorification of violence and martyrdom by the Palestinian Authority.
Beside the picture is written an imaginary conversation between the two which reads as follows:
“My mother dressed me in a strange belt (i.e., a suicide belt).
I asked her: “What is this, mother?”
She said: “I will put it on you and you will go to your death!”
I said to her: “Mother, what have I done that you want me to die?”
She shed a tear that hurt my heart and said: “The homeland needs you, son. Go and blow up the sons of Zion.”
I said to her: “Why me and not you?”
She said: “I will stay in order to give birth to more children for the sake of Palestine.”
I kissed her hand and said to her: “Keep it up, mother, for you and for Palestine I will kill the impure and the damned.””
3. VIDEO: FIRE DESTROYS 50 HOMES IN HURRICANE-FLOODED QUEENS by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
A six-alarm destroyed at least 50 homes in Queens, a borough heavy populated by Israelis and American Jews, and flooded by the Frankenstorm Sandy storm.
The New York Fire Department said on its Twitter page that more than 50 homes had been “completely destroyed” but could not immediately be reached for further comment, according to AFP.
The fire came after the megastorm slammed into the US East Coast, flooding lower Manhattan, inundating several subway lines and knocking out power to a half a million homes and businesses across the city.
More than 200 firefighters were fighting the fire in the Breezy Point section of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, NBC reported.
The fire was reported around 11 p.m. Monday night.
4. 12 YEAR-OLD BOY STANDS TRIAL FOR MURDERING NEO-NAZI FATHER by Rachel Hirshfeld
Opening statements in the trial of a 12-year-old boy accused of murdering his neo-Nazi father are set to begin Tuesday in Riverside, California.
Then only ten years-old, Joseph Hall deliberately shot his father, who was a rising figure in Nationalist Socialist movement, using a snub-nose revolver at his family”s Riverside home.
“What he did, had it been done by anybody older, there would be no doubt that it was a murder,” said prosecutor Michael Soccio, according to The New York Times. “It”s planned. It”s premeditated. It was carried out in a cold, killing fashion. It is a murder.”
Joseph was present at neo-Nazi gatherings hosted by his parents and was taught at a young age how to use a firearm, but Riverside County prosecutors say the boy”s exposure to white supremacist culture probably won”t play a big role at trial.
Joseph”s public defender, Matthew J. Hardy, says his client has neurological and psychological problems, compounded by exposure to neo-Nazi “conditioning” and physical abuse in the home, the Times reported.
“He”s been conditioned to violence,” Mr. Hardy said, adding, “You have to ask yourself: Did this kid really know that this act was wrong based on all those things?”
Court documents reveal that the child was prone to violent outbursts and was frequently the target of his father”s drunken rages. The boy reportedly told police he killed his father to stop the abuse.
California”s penal code also states that children under 14 cannot be charged with a crime without clear proof that “they knew its wrongfulness.” The judge said she could make a ruling in the case as early as next week.
If convicted, Joseph Hall could remain in custody until the age of 25, providing he doesn”t commit any crimes while incarcerated.
5. ROMNEY WORSE THAN SANDY, SAYS BILL CLINTON by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
Former President Bill Clinton exploited the devastating storm that is pounded the Eastern U.S. coast and charged that Mitt Romney would be worse than Frankenstorm Sandy if he is elected.
While President Barack Obama and Romney tried to show they are more concerned for the lives and property of Americans than they are about getting elected, Clinton plowed into Romney during a speech to Democrats in Connecticut, two days before Sandy took out its wrath on the state.
“We’re coming down to the 11th hour. We’re facing a violent storm,” Clinton said. “It’s nothing compared to the storm we’ll face if you don’t make the right decision in this election.”
Clinton used undiplomatic language in his accusations that Romney is promising the same jobs that Obama is about to deliver.
“Every time Mr. Romney promises us 12 million jobs, I want to gag,” Clinton said. “It’s actually not a bad promise.”
He latched on to recent economic statists that have raised eyebrows among economists and suspicions among some Republicans that highly-placed bureaucrats are fiddling with statistics to show a sudden turnaround in the American economy.
The jobless rate suddenly dropped by 5 percent last month, from 8.1 to 7.8 percent, and statistics last week showed an unexpected economic expansion growth of 2% for the past three quarters, up from 1.3% in the prior three-month period.
“We’re moving in the right direction,” Clinton said.
In a separate campaign stop in Ohio, Clinton charged Romney with “a load bull” by claiming that Chrysler is moving its Jeep production from the United States to China.
Even Jeep said “that’s the biggest load of bull in the world that they would ever shut down American operations,” Clinton said. Chrysler earlier had said n a somewhat contradictory statement that it “has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China,” but is “simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden declared, “Romney will say anything — absolutely anything — to win.”
6. ISRAEL RELEASES ANOTHER HUNGER STRIKING TERRORIST by Elad Benari
Israeli authorities on Monday released former hunger striker Hasan Safadi, the Palestinian Authority prisoners minister told the Bethlehem-based Ma”an news.
Minister Issa Qaraqe said Safadi had been freed from Hadarim jail in central Israel.
Safadi, who stopped a 93-day hunger strike in September, is one of two prisoners who ended a hunger strike after assurances they would be freed at the end of their current administrative detention term.
Ma”an reported that Safadi was detained from his home in Shechem (Nablus) in June of 2011.
He launched a previous 71-day hunger strike on March 5, which he ended when some 2,000 prisoners joined the strikes, resulting in an agreement with Israeli authorities.
When Safadi’s detention order was renewed on June 21, he re-launched his strike, the report said.
Hunger striking to bring about a release from Israeli prisons has become a very common phenomenon among PA Arab terrorist prisoners in recent months.
In April, Israel released Hana Shalbi, a female terrorist, after a 43-day hunger strike.
Shalbi, a terrorist from the Islamic Jihad organization, was arrested for terrorist activity in 2010. She refused to cooperate with interrogators and was violent towards them. This violence included threatening their lives, trying to attack one of them, spitting at police officers, and even biting a policewoman.
Another famous case of a hunger striking terrorist being released is that of Khader Adnan, who had gone a on a hunger strike for 66 days to pressure the State to release him. The hunger strike resulted in Adnan being admitted to hospital.
He launched the hunger strike to protest his administrative detention and the strike became a cause célèbre for anti-Israel activists and Arab propaganda organizations. His attorney appealed his administrative detention order to Israel’s Supreme Court.
The State later caved in to the pressure and agreed not to renew Adnan”s administrative detention order. He, in turn, agreed to end his hunger strike.
As part of a deal to end the last mass hunger strike, Israel made some concessions to the PA, including an agreement to stop placing prisoners in solitary confinement.
In addition, Israel agreed to allow prisoners to call relatives, to pursue academic studies, and to allow prisoners from Gaza as well as from Judea and Samaria to receive visits from family members.
The deal also included a release of the bodies of 91 terrorists to the PA. The release of the bodies was s another in an ongoing series of “gestures” by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to the PA, in an effort to encourage PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to agree to return to negotiations with Israel.
So far, the PA has refused, although Abbas has accepted Israel’s “gestures.”
7. NEW LABOR CANDIDATE OPPOSES DOUBLE BEDS by Gil Ronen
The latest in a long line of journalists to join politics in Israel is Merav Michaeli, a well known television and radio personality, who is famous for her radical neo-Marxist views on gender issues. Among other things, Michaeli opposes double beds, and not out of Halakhic considerations of purity. She announced Tuesday that she will vie for a spot on Labor’s Knesset list.
Michaeli writes opinion pieces in radical left wing newspaper Haaretz. Her latest column, “Forced Couplehood,” begins with a cite from French magazine Le Monde, according to which more and more people are buying 160-cm. wide double mattresses instead of 140-mm. wide ones. French doctors explained, she said, that people move around and snore in their sleep, and that sleeping in the same bed with another person is a completely unnatural habit.
Michaeli goes on to say that the marital double bed is an invention of the Church, which uses it to control procreation, and that this control is perpetuated by modern secular society. She goes on to explain that the heterosexuality, which encourages men and women to sleep together in the same bed, is a political institution through which men control and exploit women.
Michaeli has, in the past, exposed herself indecently while presenting a news show, in protest of some perceived injustice against women. She is also notorious for her habit of eating with her hands instead of using knives and forks.
Michaeli is the granddaughter of Rudolf Kastner, a Hungarian Jewish immigrant and Israeli government official who was accused of striking a deal with the senior Nazi official Adolf Eichmann to allow 1,685 affluent Jews to escape persecution, while failing to warn others that their resettlement was in fact deportation to the gas chambers. He also gave positive character references after the war for SS officer Kurt Becher, thus allowing Becher to escape prosecution for war crimes.
After an official defamation lawsuit was filed against a writer who accused Kastner of being a traitor, a court ruled in 1955 that Kastner had indeed, in the words of Judge Benjamin Halevi, “sold his soul to the devil.”
The Supreme Court of Israel overturned most of the judgment in January 1958, stating that the lower court had “erred seriously,” but not before Kastner had been assassinated.
Michaeli has come out strongly in defense of her grandfather.
According to Israeli media, she was, in the past, the romantic partner of Haaretz journalist Gideon Levy, who has been dubbed “the baron of the industry of lies” by Maariv.
